This was a few years ago now, but one Christmas Eve (it fell on a Friday, like my usual Starbucks run), I popped into my local Starbucks for my regular mocha frapp, and a local police officer was there getting some coffee for him and his partner, and he decided to pay for everyone’s drinks that evening. He just stayed there at the register, handing over his card every time someone placed an order. I thought it was exceedingly kind, particularly since I know cops don’t make a ton of money, and it was a nice Christmas gift for me because it meant I had an extra $6 in my pocket at the end of the year. Other than that, I can’t say someone I didn’t know really went out of their way to do something nice for me, aside from the usual holding open of doors or something like that. I wouldn’t call that “going out of their way,” since you’re supposed to do it.
