When I was in high school, everyone was excited beyond words to get their learner’s permit. Driving a car was the most grown-up thing we could do at that point, well, legally-speaking, and my high school required you to take Driver’s Ed so you could graduate. I’m not sure I understand that, as I don’t know what learning to drive a car has to do with passing the state-mandated curriculum in order to go to college, but whatever. I took Driver’s Ed, and I passed. I got my permit. Driving is boring, honestly. It was fun for a while when I was 16 years old, but I’m going to be 36 in four months. It’s…okay? I mean, it gets me from one place to another, but I can’t say it’s something I look on with a lot of glee or anything. If I could go back and time and tell my teenage self to calm down and not be so excited about it, I probably would.
