The first time I saw Forrest Gump, I cried for about an hour afterward. The scene that always gets me is when Jenny tells Forrest he has a son, and he breaks down asking her if he’s smart or if he’s like him. She tells him he’s the smartest boy in his class, and you can see the visible relief on his face; he doesn’t want Little Forrest to suffer the way he did. There were so many great songs on the film’s soundtrack, it was difficult to narrow it down to just one. However, I thought I’d go with the song playing during the scene where Jenny finally leaves an abusive boyfriend — I’ve had more than a few friends over the years have to do that, and they’re stronger than I would be. For today’s Musical Interlude Friday selection, I give you Love Her Madly by The Doors. Enjoy!
