“No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.” — Eleanor Roosevelt

Inequality is the state of being when one person is held to be worth more or valued more than another, simply because of their skin color, country of origin, sexual orientation, race, religion, gender, economic status, disability status, or anything else that we would call a “demographic.”  It can even be something as simple as thinking someone who gets worse grades than you in school is somehow less of a person.  There is a great chasm in this country that exists between the very rich and the very poor, a chasm that gets wider every day.  Poor people are believed by many to be poor because of some fault within themselves, and therefore they shouldn’t get help.  The “bootstraps” phenomenon I’m sure you’ve all heard before.  Then there’s the inequality that exists in marriage, where in many states, unless you’re straight, you’re not allowed.  Which makes absolutely no fucking sense whatsoever.

This is part of the reason I’m such a staunch advocate for social justice.  The Declaration of Independence says that all men (humans) are created equal…..so then why aren’t we?  Why aren’t more people fighting to help those that need it, whether it be the mentally ill, the homeless, the unemployed, veterans, children, gays who want to get married, women who want access to affordable contraception or abortions, etc.,?  For a country that claims to be so exceptional, we sure do a shitty job of showing it sometimes.
