Disgusting habit.

My parents smoke, and I hate it. I’m fortunate that I haven’t developed any health issues due to living with smokers for 34 years, but that doesn’t mean much. It’s awful. I had friends in school, both high school and college, that smoked, but I never had any desire to do it myself. They’d offer, I’d say no, and that was that. On a slight tangent, the same is true for alcohol. I was offered beer or wine coolers or what have you quite a lot at parties both in high school and in college, and I’d just say no. I never felt like I had to do anything like that to fit in, because I didn’t care about fitting in. I was in school to get an education, not party, and I kept that in the back of my mind at all times. My parents didn’t splash out $50,000 so I could spend 5 years (I had to take a year off of school when we moved to another state so I could establish residency.) doing nothing but getting wasted. That being said, back to smoking. I’ve never met anyone who was made more attractive because they smoked. In fact, if I find out you smoke, that takes points away from you as far as hotness goes. No one wants to be with someone who smells like an ashtray and can’t breathe properly. I’ve got my own health issues, but at least I don’t have to worry about emphysema or lung cancer.

If you smoke — stop. Seriously. Think of all the money you currently spend on cigarettes and imagine it going right back into your bank account. What can you do with all that money? Treat yourself to some new clothes? Go out somewhere nice for dinner? Get your hair done? Buy a new video came console? The choices are endless.

My parents also smoke(d) and I hated it. I’m so glad I never started, I don’t think it is an addiction that is easy to stop. I know people that have, but I can’t even stop my coffee addiction so don’t hold much hope that I would ever be able to!
